Intertidal walks
The intertidal zone — the area left behind when the sea recedes to low tide — is an exciting and, in our opinion, underrated ecosystem, which is threatened by increasing pollution, urbanization, and careless human interaction.
Small Change hosts walks to visit sea stars, algae, snails, hermit crabs, sea horses, barnacles and shorebirds; teaching volunteers about this complex and challenging habitat, which boasts the highest biodiversity and productivity of the four oceanic zones. Intertidal walks include an introduction to the Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics guidelines, which provide guidelines on how we can minimize our impact while enjoying the wonders of nature.
Intertidal walks are completely free and open to the public. Check out our upcoming events page for planned walks.
